How Do You Get Your Website Ranked At The Top Of Google

In the Google world, a phrase that someone types in when they are searching for something is called a keyword.

If you were to make up a expression, or keyword phrase, and then create a web page that used that keyword several times, it would be very easy to place at the top of Google for that keyword phrase.

Let's suppose that you have a website for a product you sell called 'googliamany'. If someone searches for your keyword phrase 'googliamany', Google will display your site near the top of the results search page. Google wants to supply searchers the most relevant results for the keyword that they searched for.

The problem with this example is that not a soul is ever going to search for that keyword phrase since it does not exist. So let's look at a more realistic example:

"office cleaning Howard county Maryland"

Now, this keyword phrase and its should really tip the attention of cleaning companies situated in Howard County Maryland.

If you search for this keyword without the quotation marks surrounding it you get somewhere around 145,000 results. If you take a look at the results closely you will become aware that some of the sites returned don't exactly seem 'highly relevant' to the keyword. For instance:

* An internal audit report from the department of public works.
* Reliable Cleaning of Bowie MD (Bowie is located in Prince Georges County, NOT Howard County)
* Commercial Buildings Maintenance Inc - (Frederick, MD) -
* Montgomery County Maryland Commercial Cleaning Service.

Are these inappropriate search results due to the fact that, just like our made up keyword phrase, nobody searches for "office cleaning Howard county Maryland"? I do not believe so. If you see paid Google Adwords showing up, you know that businesses are marketing for that keyword.

So maybe we are on to a terrific keyword opportunity here. You would want to do a little, good comprehensive keyword phrase research to make sure that people really key in in "office cleaning Howard county Maryland" as a search term. My guess is that they do!

Following the keyword phrase investigation, if I were a Cleaning Service located in Howard County MD I would be running to my web guy to see how promptly he could set up a new web page on my website with the title....
http://BrucesCleaningService.com/Office-Cleaning-Howard-County-Maryland
I would make sure that he used the exact expression "office cleaning Howard county Maryland" more than a few times on the page.

Do you think that this page would rank well on Google when someone searched for this keyword phrase? YOU BET IT WOULD! How do I know it would? I am happy you asked.

As we saw earlier there were about 145,000 results if you searched for "office cleaning Howard county Maryland" not including the quotation marks.

Now try searching for the same keyword WITH the double quotation marks surrounding it. This tells Google to only display to us web pages that have the keywords in the search term in the exact sequence that we entered them.

Searching for "office cleaning Howard county Maryland" WITH the double quotation marks gives us the following... "No results found for "office cleaning Howard county Maryland"."
CHA CHING! This indicates that there are ZERO web pages with these keywords in this exact order.

If we optimize a page on our website for these keywords, Google has no other choice except to place us at the top of the results.

Try a search associated to your business plus a regional modifier.

Do the search WITHOUT the exact match double quotes and look at the relevancy of the search results page. Are there Google Adwords on the page indicating commercial viability?

Now do the search including the exact match double quotes and find out how many competing web pages there are.

If there are fewer than 10000 competing pages you could have a outstanding opportunity for your business.
